No10: "We need some thing fresh.. down with the Facebook / Bebo / Twitter crowd something that will help us connect with Generation Y"

Agency: "We could get you integrated to every social platform out there?, Fresh you say... well we have done some stuff for Hollywood recently".

No10: "Hollywood you say?"

agency: "yes Hollywood, films movies etc, big, clever, social, web 3.0,viral stuff, we can help you connect to your audiences"

No10: .. "Ok we're interested how much?"

Agency: "100k for the lot"

No10 thinking:, the last lot wanted 250k, this will make us look more accountable, positive spin,

No10: "Ok how quickly can you deliver .Brown or "GB" as we're now calling him needs that "in-crowd touch" fast"

Agency: If we do some creative resourcing we will be most likely to deliver around about..say first half of August..

No10: "You've got a deal, keep us informed"

Agency thinking: Well that was easy, this one is gonna look good to future clients.

Agency project manager: "what! your kidding.. do u know how long these things take to build and test?"

Agency money man : "Beg, steal do what ever you can.. 4 weeks alright with you, testing?, can't we do that when it's live?, it will be one of those umm betathings the big players are doing it"

Agency dev, after hearing brief : "sigh" Clicks on to SEARCH enters how to build a site quickly using cms technologies, result returns wordpress

I've been loving big plasma screens showing stuff since they installed them at the Tesco I used to work at.. OK they displayed POS ( But it opened my eyes to real world data visualization ).

And nothing connects data with people better than some kind of visual stimuli.. so here's my random collection ( I plan to add to this list ) of cool visual interfaces /displays - they have to be on big shinny screens for all to see, pref hanging from up high.. sigh... ) in no particulate order.

Real Time Data visualization

Last FM

What they say...(Adrian Woodhead)

The setup shown above is great for being able to look up and get a quick feel for the current state of our systems. Blinking red and graphs with huge spikes are rarely a good thing. In addition to these displays we also have a number of alerts (e-mail, sms, irccat) that get triggered if things go wrong while we are away from the screens (yes, it does happen). There is nothing quite like the joy of being woken up in the early hours of the morning with a barrage of text messages containing the details of each and every machine that has unexpectedly crashed.

More

Virgin Radio (Soon to re branded) -Visual Display of Quant Information

What they say...(John Martin)

For about 2 years we geeks in Digital Media have had a big LCD television mounted on the wall showing statistics about the website. Whenever a client or colleague wandered down to the Digital Media end of the 1st floor they would be transfixed by the live river of items that would flow onto the screen. It’s something that if you weren’t careful you could loose hours of your life just staring gormlessly as our VIPs replied to blogs, shouted at each other, became friends, and so on.

More

TFL

Automated Underground - status information screens

Image: Robert Brook

I couldn't find much information about these which surprised me seeing as they are installed at pretty much every TFL station in greater London. The content is fed from the TFL status servers and update pretty regally, you can grab the data yourself if you know how.

Here's some widgets that do the same thing

I'm looking to expand this list so if anyone knows of any other cool visualization screens in their or other offices add a comment or email me.

And I will add it too the list.

1. Creative people have a great deal of physical energy, but they're also often quiet and at rest. They work long hours, with great concentration...

2.. Creative people tend to be smart yet naive at the same time.

3. Creative people combine playfulness and discipline, or responsibility and irresponsibility... "Despite the carefree air that many creative people affect, most of them work late"

4. Creative people alternate between imagination and fantasy, and a rooted sense of reality. Great art and great science involve a leap of imagination into a world that is different from the present...

5. Creative people trend to be both extroverted and introverted.

6. Creative people are humble and proud at the same time.

7. Creative people, to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping.... "creative boys are more sensitive and less aggressive than their male peers"

8.Creative people are both rebellious and conservative. It is impossible to be creative without having first internalized an area of culture...

9.Most creative people are very passionate about their work, yet they can be extremely objective about it as well.

10.Creative people's openness and sensitivity often exposes them to suffering and pain, yet also to a great deal of enjoyment.

I prob agree with 75% of that... what do you think?

Retro food stuffs seem to be very hip at the moment, with other brands set to launch long forgotten ranges from the 70's & 80's.. so what's next.. Wispa Gold.

The viral video which cost $320 to produce.. that's cheap for DIAGEO.. who's is used to spending a few million, involved two different male hands taking the drink, which is precariously balanced on the small of the woman’s back, before another woman reaches up and grabs it, the strap line reads.. share with one or two.. made for sharing.

The producer known as DESchatz (Not Real name) is quoted as making the following statement.

It really isn't real. I shot the ad with no intention of sending it to Guinness because of the content. IT was meant to either make people laugh or get really disgusted. I rather people felt the former because that's why it was made. Just for fun.
Oh and it only cost $320 for the ad. My equipment, 300 for the actress, and the rest for food and a six pack of Guinness

Link to a live version (Dutch Site)
http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/190531/47942b87/liefde_is.html

DIAGEO demanded quite quickly that youTube removed the video, which it would seem it has done now.

Although the ad is dead on youTube on this hasn't stopped the mirror sites seeding the content, thousands if not million of eyes have seen the creative.

Some would said it's detrimental to it's brand (Guinness) but in a marketplace such as the web, striking out amongst the thousands of viral videos created every week is difficult esp in the UK, and after all

DIAGEO issued statement "Guinness is in no way associated with this video, and approached YouTube to have it removed. We are proud of our brands, and our commitment to responsible marketing, and this is not how we want our brand portrayed"

Even so, If I was DIAGEO's creative agency I would hire the guy (nothing has got office workers talking about Guinness so much this summer) plus he's budgeting skills seem suburb.

There's no such thing as bad publicity or so it would seem.
