Paper Vision 3D and AS3

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

This week saw my work computer being upgraded .. whooo, I'm working on 2gig of SDRam now (not much in terms of most digital production companies) but for me it made a big difference, also in a major development i've now got CS3 on my machine and with that comes the world of fun that is Actionscript 3.0 and all thoose lovely migration issues.

I think for the main, as i work on tight deadlines, I won't be upgrading any of my older work but anything new i'm going to make an effort to build in as3.. kudos to Lee Brimlow (Flash Blog) for his excellent tutes a must for any newbie as3'er such as myself.

Anyone new to the as3 needs to learn about the new Document Class which makes Object Oriented Programming with Flash quicker and easier, if your not quite sure where to start, check out Lee's video tute on the subject.

I'm also interested in getting my hands on Papervision 3D, but only once i've got past the basics of AS3, the effects available within the package are amazing check out some of these showcase sites taken straight from Papervision3D blog, in true musing style i've added my thoughts.

ludoescrime by Le Coq Sportif Loving the concept, not to sure about the quality, nice little on brand project with a funky house track

Verywell.com - This site has style, with slick animation and great user interface effects . My only problem with it is that it can be a little difficult to navigate for the non tech crowd.

Nitrogroup.comSlick bit of animation, although it's a bit buggy now and again, note the flicker inbetween content areas.

You are Steve Jobs An example of a quick game whichs uses a nice papervision 3D effect, plus quite playable.

I'm sure I will post more about AS3 as I progress but for now it's back to the regular musings.

The Future of Radio Maybe?

iPhone

GCap does ipod from Guardian Media / Radio

As someone working within the future of radio.. well a digital platforms team, I must say I find this very interesting.

Although I don't own an Ipod Touch and or iphone ( I mean who wants to pay £300 for something that ties you in to 02 for 18 months ) . I can see this service being of use to a lot of people.

This move for me is the first step towards some new digital offerings from GCap now that it has Fru Hazlitt at the Helm (ex Virgin Radio and more importantly managing director of Yahoo UK )
I think we will see more investment within new platforms well except from Digital Radio (DAB) in it's current format which seems to be a little bit of a white elephant in the Media Landscape.

Personally I think GCap will concentrate on Wifi radio.. after all it's much cheaper than DAB and Wifi take up is growing year after year, even mc Donald's has plans to offer free wifi to it's customers following the free model often found it trendy bars and coffee shops.

Despite the innovative sstrategy outlined today, It is likely that the city will fail to view it's potential, GCap might never get to see it's vision, let's just hope who ever gets their mits on GCap's assets in the future manages to retain some of the work and vision already started.

Commercial Radio (and this is just my personal musing) seems to be playing catch up with the potential of the digital age although with every innovation it steps closer to the mark, although it might be a while before the likes of Last FM begin to worry.

Musing Done.
