Saturday night dinning

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Well it's been a few days and I haven't blogged so here goes...

I spent the Weekend in lovely Bristol with the even more lovely GF, she lives there, long distance m4 relationship can suck sometimes esp when there's 5 drunken rugby playing Ozzie's on your coach (044, for those bus junkies out there), no really they where a good bunch of guys, just managed to fill the on board toilet up to the point where it was over filling.. Nice.

Well apart from the some what humorous, and well quite frankly smelly start to the weekend, it turned out to be a really good if not fattening weekend.

I say fattening cause we didn't half eat good, Saturday saw us dine well at a lovely harbor-side place known as Bordeaux Quay Matthew Norman in a review for The Guardian Newspaper (what i read now again) had given it a 9.5 out of 10, below is his description of the concept of the place.

What is so impressive about this place is, well, everything. Owner and head cook Barny Haughton converted this 1920s warehouse to maximise the use of rain water (filtered and served, still or sparkling, absolutely free) and natural light, and to minimise the need for central heating and air conditioning. Apparently close to being the country's first carbon-neutral restaurant, Bordeaux Quay relies entirely on produce that's been grown locally, or at least within a 50-mile radius

read his whole review here

Architecture and sustainable living methods are two things that I have an interest in more so in the former rather than the latter all though my time in London has opened my eyes to how much waste we produce, so I was looking forward to the experience, and wasn't disappointed, the place was chilled yet had an air of style, the staff where friendly and prompt.

We dinned in the brassiere, it's the end of the month, where the food is a little more basic but your able to just walk in and sit down, does get busy after 8 though, I can't really do the food justice with my reviewing skills but lets just say that Hannah's haddock risotto was possibly the best smoked fish dish I had ever tasted, and well my Apple pie was really scummy, best of all the desert / pastry chef added a bit of interaction and brought each pudding out himself.

And with a Invitation card (everyone is Bristol and Bath should get one) we managed to save 25%

After which we headed to Goldbrick house (Bristols media's hangout of choice) and indulged in the funky (yes i used that word) atmosphere, if you haven't been check it out.

Well not gonna go into every detail of the evening but needless to say I enjoyed it and am looking forward to trying out more places in the saving book.

Better make sure I get back into going to the Gym then, but that's for another blog post.
